Parallels and Quest Software Inc. announced launching a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution that offers enterprises a centralized Windows desktop deployment and management platform. The bundle promises to reduces the management and security headache of desktop computing, and reduces the investment required in hardware and software licenses.
The solution aims to deliver up to three times the number of virtual desktops on each physical server dramatically cutting cost associated and increasing efficiency.

Fusion has come out number one in in the annual PC world awards for best virtualization product placing 79th overall in rankings of the best products of 2008.
“These awards go to the best technology products we’ve seen in the last 12 months,” said Edward N. Albro, editor of PC World. “Our editors looked at hundreds of hardware, software and Web products to compile this list of outstanding performers. Congratulations to VMware Fusion.”

Sun’s recently acquired VirtualBox hypervisor has been gaining popularity at an astonishing rate with current estimates stating that the virtualization platform has been averaging 10,000 downloads a day.
VirtualBox is an open source hosted VMM for desktops that allows users to run mulitple operating systems on one computer.
