Symantec (SYMC) has announced plans to acquire nSuite Technologies, Inc. a privately held company specializing in virtual workspace management for an undisclosed price.

nSuite makes software called PrivacyShell, the leading virtual workspace management solution for the health care industry. It allows healthcare organizations to manage and deliver IT workspaces for their users, from doctors and nurses to administrators and case workers using their unique follow-me technology.

The nSuite technologies will eventually be incorporated into Symantec’s Software Virtualization Solution Professional (SVS Pro) package, which includes streaming technology and virtualization applications gained from the AppStream and Altiris acquisitions.

Ken Berryman, vice president at Endpoint Virtualization, Symantec, said,

“The real promise of endpoint virtualization is improving the end-user experience while helping to lower the cost of managing endpoint devices,” and “Symantec’s strategy is to help enable a truly dynamic endpoint where applications and information are delivered to any computing environment in a seamless manner.”

Symantec have been steadily acquiring over the past few months, the company bought backup and storage company SwapDrive Inc. in June, and data-leak prevention company Vontu in November for $350 million.

On a Buying spree?

Symantec Corp. Chief Executive John Thompson said only last week,

“As the liquidity opportunities for private companies continue to be challenging, it would make it much more attractive for them to consider a strategic purchase by a buyer like Symantec” and “We believe that will create an opportunity for us for the next few years,” Thompson also said. “You should expect us to be active acquirers.”

These are all signs of a company on a mission and sights have certainly been set on the virtualization space and with all of these recent acquisitions they will no doubt be under the watchful eye of VMware.
